My October Wrap Up for 2021
In the month of October I was able to get through 3 books! That is quite the achievement for me in this day and age vs. when I was a teen and knocking out about 20–30 books a month…
The first book I read in October was ‘Six of Crows’ by Leigh Bardugo. I’ve actually owned this book for MANY years but never got around to reading it. I bought it because I thought the book was gorgeous with it’s black edges and black and red cover. It sat on my shelf for all those years until the beginning of this month when Book Tok finally motivated me to pick it up.

I am so mad that I did not pick this book up sooner because it is AMAZING! When describing this book to My Husband, I said it was like Peaky Blinders with super powers. ‘Six of Crows’ is a spinoff series in the Grishaverse aka the ‘Shadow and Bone’ book series. If you’ve watched the TV show on Netflix then you already have a good idea what’s going on in ‘Six of Crows’ because they took some of the characters from that book and integrated them into the ‘Shadow and Bone’ storyline.
As soon as I finished ‘Six of Crows’ I knew it would be one of my new favorite books. It has adventure, romance, and a paranormal aspect to it which are all things I love. There is literally something for everyone in this book. I’ve even seen that this book has a big guy following which can be quite rare for most popular YA books. Overall, if you haven’t picked this book up yet, YOU NEED TO!
The next book I ended up reading in October was ‘The Raven Boys’ by Maggie Stiefvater. This book was super hyped up on booktube back in the day when it came out. Previously I had read Maggie Stiefvater’s other book series ‘Shiver’ and really liked it. All my friends who read ‘The Raven Boys’ said it was really good, if not better than ‘Shiver.’ So I finally got around to picking it up and honestly I think it got more hype than it deserved.

‘The Raven Boys’ is a interesting tale about a young woman who lives in a household of fortune tellers. The girl herself is considered an amplifier who helps them see things more clearly. Meanwhile there are a group of boys who attend a private school nearby who are called, The Raven boys. These boys are on a special mission, one that ends up involving our main character Blue and the rest is history.
I think this book had a lot of potential, it was just a really slow read for me. The characters were written well & I especially loved Noah, however I doubt very much I’m going to be finishing this series. It just really wasn’t my cup of tea.
Finally, I read this Masterpiece, ‘These Violent Delights’ by Chloe Gong. This book had me from the very start! First of all it is a ‘Romeo and Juliet’ retelling set in the 1920s in Shanghai. Two of my most favorite things in this world just happen to be Shakespeare and the 1920s!

I am completely in LOVE with this book! It had me hooked from the very first sentence. The first page alone gave me goosebumps. I have not felt this way about a book since reading ‘City of Bones’ by Cassandra Clare for the first time back in 2007!
The Author Chloe Gong is a genius! Her writing style is beautiful and elegant. It will keep you hooked until the very last sentence of the book. I found myself reading this book as often as I could just because I had such a strong desire to find out what would happen next.
Again, I LOVE EVERYTHING about this book! The cover, the characters, the writing, and the plot. Seriously this list could go on and on! I am so happy that I stumbled onto this book and cannot wait for the next book, ‘Our Violent Ends’ which comes out in just a few days!
If you have not read this book yet, you should seriously run, not walk, to your nearest bookstore and get a copy because it is BRILLIANT!
